Thanks, I appreciate that.  If I get to the point that I can sign up for a 100 car run, I'll only have 98 cars to buy.

Not a lot new, but here is a short update.

Local historical society got back with me and says that they just received a new collection of color slides and one of them was of this car!  They said they will pull it and see if they can make me a copy.  This is very good news.

Atlas O received my request and sent it to their product research people for study.  Nothing solid but at least it was encouraging.  They would like more pictures and info, my biggest frustration at present.

Buffalo Creek Graphics was very encouraging.  They sound like very nice people to work with so far.  100 car minimum which is also great.

I'm told Lionel's minimum is 500 cars which definitely separates the men from the boys.

I've also sent a request to Walthers and hope to hear from them soon.

If anyone has any luck finding pictures of this car, please let me know.  Mill City can you pull another rabbit out of the hat with pictures?

I wrote to Weaver again asking if I went with 40 foot wood sided reefers could they help me?  And I just received another one sentence reply.

"We are also currently out of Woodside Reefer bodies"

So, I still know nothing about their custom run program or if they are interested in trying to do business with me.

I suggest you call them Monday morning and get the facts. Ask to speak to Joe Hayter. Joe is the owner. Explain to Joe your plans. Ask him, how soon it will be before they will have bodies to paint. Also, find out how many you have to buy and what your cost would be. Tell Joe, to look at your picture on the forum. Art, if you have something you could send them that would be great. The cost of your car may be based on how many colors of the paint they use.

As a part of my project to obtain my Spencer Packing Co. reefers, I ordered a couple custom run reefers from Buffalo Creek Graphics.  I had a two fold purpose.  I wanted to see how well they looked and I wanted the two that I had posted the pictures of.  These two reefers, a Rath Packing and a Morrell Meats were ones that were seen in the same "meat trains" that my Spencer Packing reefers were in.

I think they look fabulous!  Here are a few pictures that I just took of them beside some of my MTH Morrell reefers.

Hi 'Ya Chug!  Late to this party.  Hope you find a source for decal reproduction.

I too, am a sucker for refrigerator cars.  My KC Lines theme will have a use for many of them, as well as getting to see all the KC railroads make an appearance on the layout.  (Sorry, it's in W-scale. i.e. Wienie scale. )

Actually, that "Baldwin S-2" is an Alco S-2. The S12 and S-2 are two totally different critters.

Today I received another picture of a real Spencer Packing Co. 40' Steel Reefer.  It is from the local historical society and is from a color slide that they have in their collection.  It shows the logo very well and I can make out the Built Date as 1950.

I have forwarded this picture to the manufacturers in hopes that it will help sway them to produce one.

Big News!  Atlas has my Spencer Packing Co. reefers in their new catalog!  And they are making 4 different numbers!

My friends know that I have been trying to get these made for many years.  I thought Atlas was interested in making them when Jim Weaver was there.  After his death, things just didn't go anywhere.   I was on the track to have Buffalo Creek Graphics or Weaver make them as a private run just before Weaver ceased operations.  Then I pursued a private run with a hobby shop friend with Atlas.  Just before we pulled the trigger on these, MTH decided they might make them.

The Atlas announcement surprises me, but pleases me very much.  I know that Atlas will make them 100% prototypically and with highly detailed models.

As long as I have tried to get these made, for me it's right up there with the Cubs winning the World Series.

Thanks, Atlas!  And thanks to all my friends that have supported me, encouraged me, and given me good advice during this quest.

Hi Art

I need the 4 cars.  What is the Atlas number so I can get into the action.

Tommy

Tommy - I would contact your favorite retailer that sells Atlas products and pre-order them.  That's what I am going to do.  I don't know if that is necessary for them to make them, but I don't  want to take any chances.

Thanks for your support.
