Okay....

I'm going bonkers. It's official!! We are nearing the end of August and there has been little information as to what the new Lionel catalog holds. Charlie, others, can we have some leaks? Throw a dog a bone!  But Lionel has been more secretive about this catalog than parts of our American government!

So can some brave soul leak some information about the catalog? What Milwaukee Road, Southern Pacific, Pennsylvania, New York Central or Nickel Plate Road will grace the pages of this catalog and hurt our wallets!

OMG  no track in the catalog, they discontinued  track! Oh No

They are still including track with the sets!  They have just decided to put in random pieces instead of a complete loop.  They feel that this will encourage you to buy more sets and trade for what you need.  That way you might get that "hard to find" O72 switch or even a 90 degree crossing!  Who wants to go to the store just for track anyways?

If I didn't know better I'm sure I detect a bit of sarcasm going on here somewhere.

I thought the new catalogue will include a retro line of fishing reels, cameras, easy bake ovens, chemistry sets, microscope sets and junior tool sets. Then near the end you will see eight pages of American Flyer 'S' gauge which will be followed by a single blank page saying all 'O' gauge products unexpectedly delayed until 2014.

Also NYC Mohawk set was also shown.  Sweet looking scale set with a Mich Central Double Sheath Box Car!

Good gracious!  Super O Bob lives! Glad to see ya posting, dude!  MCRR box car should be cool.

I'm pretty much tapped out now for 2012, but I'd be pretty tempted to spend a few dollars if Lionel did something REALLY special to celebrate Norfolk Southern's 30th anniversary.  MTH did the Executive Train OCS 5 years ago for the 25th anniversary.  It was an immediate hit back then, and it still commands a decent premium price today.

I know both companies have indicated they'd produce the heritage diesels.  But I think it would be a hoot if Lionel did their own Executive Train OCS with 18/19" ALUMINUM cars, along with an observation car very much like the prototype (i.e., with the entire floor-to-ceiling rear window and stair-stepped seating).  Now THAT would be a cool set!!!

At this point, it probably doesn't make too much difference whether Vol 2 comes out in August, September or even October.  'Cause nothing in it (except for perhaps something that is a carry-over from Volume 1) will likely be available until 2013 anyway.  Or so we've been told.  So start saving those pennies now, boys and girls.

Well, we are wondering what is in the catalog, we are longing for that engine that you have had on your mind since you first saw it and wanted a model of it. Then the Catalog comes out and there on page 32 is the beauty that you wanted for years, Yahoooo!!!, you run to your favorite dealer and place your order, you are all set, the order is in now all I have to do is wait...but wait a minute, what if it gets cancelled because of not enough orders, after all it is not one of the big roads like the UP, Pennsy or ATSF, o my god what if they cancel it. now you worry, worry and hold your breath, you save your money, then you start reading rumors that they may cancel your beloved engine. Then you get a email from your LHS wanting to know if you had a second choice because your first one was  CANCELLED!!!.

Do not we love our hobby, we must, why else would we torture ourselves so much!

There are a few ways to make sure you get your engine.

Pick a big road to model.

The big road will keep you broke because they had every dang thing.

When your train dealer says your engine is in, your bank account is empty.

Then you don't give a **** what is in the new catalog because you know there will be something in there you will need and it is a sure bet they will make it.

Then one day you say to yourself, why in gods name do I have all these yellow models!!!

You sell all of them for half of what you paid for them and buy a camera and take up live model photography.

Life is just a bowl of cherries!

So, I am in no hurry to see this catalog, BTW I just bought a new camera.

John, you my friend have described the the Northern Pacific affieienedo!! We have to wait and wonder if we will ever get some nice scale NP steam.

Sorry I could not be there at Greenberg. I'm still getting back on my feet from the hospital. I'm looking forward to the shows in September and hope to be there.

My NP and Milwaukee is itching to run!!

May be there will be chemistry and nascar slot car sets?  Then my wallet will get a break.  All kidding aside, I'm sure they will be doing some addon's from the last catalog and possibly some repeats of some best sellers.  We will just have to wait and see.  Frankly, my train budget needs a rest from the last 2 catalogs...
