Lionel posted demo video of the new "more accurate" cylinder steam effect. In the comments it says they are still working on the timing of the smoke and sound.

LOOKING GOOD!!!! thanks for posting RICK O !!!!
Close, but no cigar.
The steam out of the cylinder cocks is not properly in sync with the action of the cylinders.
Who can I contact at Lionel to help them with this?
They will just say it's right if it's wrong, just like the whistle on the prr engine that sounds like Thomas the tank engine

You may have missed it Rich, but I mentioned above that Lionels comments on the video stated they are working on the timing....FWIW.
Having said that, the recent challenger had the wrong chuffs. You can contact Dave Olson: dolson@lionel.com
It looks like a quantum leap forward in the cylinder cock steam effect!

I didn't miss it, that is precisely why I offered to help. The sync is different between moving forward and in reverse. Here are some illustrations to show how this should work.
I will send Dave an email with these same illustrations.

I noticed the improper steam vs. piston position issue when I first saw the video as well. What they said in the live video was that they were still trying to sync the sound up to the motion not the motion to the steam effect. He also mentioned that the steam effect is activated by the "piston" stroke and would always be in sync (or something along those lines) which tells me they aren't aware that there's an issue in the appearance. It's certainly better than their last variation with steam emitting from of all four at once but as somebody who works on this stuff every day, details such as that are tough to overlook on such an expensive product.
I believe Ryan Kunkle would be the guy to talk to about the issue, but I can't recall his forum name offhand.

Ryan Kunkle is "Director of Production" .
Dave Olson is "Director of Engineering" which is why I gave Rich his email.
Dave Olson is Conrail6358
My apologies. I missed the email address in your post.

@Conrail6358 is Ryan Kunkle. Never hurts to let him know as well.
I wonder if the cylinder cock steam effect will shut off after the locomotive reaches a certain speed or "X" amount of seconds.

One would hope so. Plus, after a "prolonged" stop, the cylinder cocks should be opened again, as condensation tends to form inside the cooling cylinders. What would the protocol be for that?
I saw the video. It cool to see unassembled engines run, features getting tested.
The video was a demo of progress after I was happy with the size of the piston. As stated, the timing is not in sync yet. That'll be matched with a lobe on the front driver set.
Rich - I appreciate the info. I'll use it with looking at the timing. There are limitations in something of this size, but I'm confident that we'll get looking pretty cool!
Happy to help, Dave. Check your email and call me if you have any questions.
Pretty darn awesome. Always great to learn something new.
