I just got a new DM&IR Mikado today.  I am pretty much an MTH guy but I have to say that I really like this engine!  It runs nice, smokes well and looks fantastic.  I have only found one small problem.  None of the Mikados that we got in have builder plates on them.

Here are a few pics.

Hi Dave;

Hows things in Mercer, my PRR mikado is also missing the builders plates. In the 2012 Lionel cat. it states there are to be builders plates on these engines. BTW the casting of the new Lionel Legacy Mikado's are the same as the casting used for my K-line scale Mikado PRR, Southern and NYC MIkado. I am sure the new Lionel Berk's will be the K-line casting rivet for rivet as well. I have the Boston/Albany K-line I am sure the Lionel with Legacy berk will be a nice engine. Will be giving Lionel a call tomorrow about the builder plates..

Take care

Vic

Rick,  ya made me laugh

Nick,

We were just talking about you in the shop yesterday.  I look forward to meeting you.

Bennett,

I was looking at the Yellowstone and the Mikado side by side today and have to say the look funny together.  The mike is so small compared to the Yellowstone.

No word from Lionel yet........................

Joseph,

Arriving tomorrow.

George,

The sheet metal is painted grey even on the Yellowstone.  It stands out to me because it is not 'just black'

I want it lol but the wife is saying no maybe if i can sell a few trains lol

Looking over the list, over the past three catalogs Lionel has released that Kline scale Mikado in fourteen roads.

I can't imagine all those boilers & tenders looked alike on the prototypes as Lionel has done them.

Anyone know which ones if all or any out of the fourteen look closest to their prototypes?

Joe

Several years ago [2007],  I bought scale Builders Plates from:

Wilbur Epperly, 123 Kelly Drive, Barboursville, West Virginia 25504

As I recall along with the Builder's Plates, he had Superheater plates as well as Trust plates.

I saw the Southern version of the Mike and PS-4 at the Lil Choo Choo Store in Spencer,N.C. across from the Old Southern Shops yesterday. Naked regarding the Plate but otherwise nice. I would consider a Southen version in locomotive workhorse  black but no more green fantrip Mikados needed. Priced at $1,099

.

Most RRs modified them to some degree, but the USRA engines were fairly consistent as to major dimensions, shape of boiler courses, and dome palcement.

breezinup....are you referring to a prior issue of the Great Northern?  If so, do you have the stock number?  Jim

Speaking of differences, I happened to notice that the Great Northern version has its headlight mounted at the top of the boiler, and the Pennsy version has a center-boiler mounting. I would have thought it would be the opposite.

I tried that same contact us when I needed service . It reminds me of the cartoon where the guys puttin a suggestion in the suggestion box and what he doesn't know is there's a paper shredder inside the box.
When you hit submit at their site it must go to oblivion because I've never  got a response from them yet. Still waitin on one I sent 2 years ago.

Still looking into this David. Not sure if your locomotive is a one-of-a-kind mistake or if there is a larger problem. You may want to contact our Customer Service directly at 586-949-4100. As soon as I find anything more i'll let you know.

In other words you can call it a collectors item or call and find out where your number plates are. LOL
