That's good to know, but why does the catalog say MOTORS as in more then one??

Lionel should let people know of the printing error, as some may not want to purchase the set with just one motor.

There has been much talked here, regarding the last runs of the M-7's with there lack of pulling power, and less then stellar motors.

I'm very disappointed.

Unless your upgrading the motor

3 Cars wont work as they need to match ends. Sounds like some new features added, possibly 2 motors like they should have been on the first set to pull the 2 add-on's. Didn't see add-ons offered on the 2nd offering. I had to add metal plates in the center and fishing line led sinkers on the front. They were jumping the tracks on curves. Might sell my 6 weathered cars sometime this year.

I took two pieces of Williams frames with the motors and connected them to the lead M-7. I had to rework the innards of the M-7 on the ends of the cars to fit the full size motors. It's been running great with 3 cars behind going up a grade for a number of years now. If you look real close you could see a slight difference in the height of the powered unit but when it's running you don't notice.

I have the Metro North set and they offered an add-on set of 2 additional cars (5 total). With 5 cars it does struggle to pull especially if I go up a grade. I also tried to disassemble one of the cars to put passengers in it and while it was ultimately successful the reassembly was next to impossible to get the doors all lined up and working without falling out or falling in. I won't bother trying to put passengers in the rest just because it was far too much of a pain to do.

Lets see.  They only come with 3 cars right?  I have a single engine LC+ engine that will put 10 cars on a 2.5% grade.   Yall plan to pull 20 cars with it ??  : )   I think its a cool set.   Although I have no use for it.

Jim

Jim, most users, such as myself, would not be running it with the puny 3-car consist.  Passenger trains - even in O - look better when they are long, not looking like a shuttle service between 2 stops.  While it would be nice to run a prototypical LIRR/Metro North consist of at least 8 cars, that's a pipe dream as just trying to run it with 6 cars (in the original 4-car set form  plus 2 add-ons) left the locomotive struggling to move on the track in the designed 6-car set by Lionel.

Lionel has gone on the cheap with the M7's  , first being underpowered from the beginning and now with every set being introduced only coming with the ridiculous 3 cars.  You would think with the upgrade to LionChief that they would have given it two motors.

There a Metro North M7 8-Car Video  on YouTube where the model railroader modified the drawbars and ran two 4-car consist connected together.  It's a beautiful sight to watch and a video that I watch on a regular basis.  Maybe one of these days I'll do the same thing.  Here's a video of my Metro North M7 5-Car Consist  that I posted in 2015.
