I just got my new Chessie SW7 w/Bluetooth from the Lionel 2018 Vol. I catalog. It is very well detailed and the colors are crisp. It runs smoothly and it has a pretty good smoke unit. I had a hard time deciding which road name to pick back during the pre-order. I can't wait to see the others as they start to roll in.

Very cool! Enjoy her.
Nice! Is the horn the same as the NW2?

Well that answers that.
Sweet engine. Can’t wait to see more and I’m thinking about the New York central sw7
Good looking switcher, the little switchers are a joy to operate.
Very nice!

So is it a yes or a no? Very nice engine and layout, enjoy!
Pondering an ACL since it appears they are never gonna do F's in Purple.
Beautifully done, very nice bright colors, thank you for posting. Happy Railroading.

I don't have one of the NW2s, so that is why I put up the video of the demo.
My arrives tomorrow. (Jan. 5th). I purchased the Maine Central. I'll post some pictures tommorow evening.
Cool stuff looking forward to seeing the Maine central. I have a pennsy nw2... love it!
I just picked mines up this past Saturday. The same exact one.

My Maine Central #331 has arrived. Runs fine. I didn't test the smoke. I only ran it on a temp 20ft piece of track on the floor. I ran it using the Lionchief app. I prefer my Cab1L. But Bluetooth operation was the easiest at this time without a layout. No broken parts found during the unboxing. 👍 I was nervous about this after recently reading about Lionel QC issues. I'm not sure if the maroon color is correct. Looks a bit too red/pink. I've never seen factory fresh MEC or Boston and Maine maroon. MEC was mostly Harvest yellow in my youth. Maroon engines were faded and dirty or repainted green or yellow.

I would get one that is painted in the Conrail- Express" paint scheme!
Nice thread. Great looking and sounding switcher. Nicely detailed. Great to see a success story after reading some of the other threads.

Based on my impression and the prototype maroon photos, the color is indeed off. The maroon would not darken with age. "Red/pink" would be my call, too.
Just got my NYC SW today from Charles Ro. Video to come tomorrow when I unbox it. Sad that it has that 'cow horn'. I was hoping for a more shrill horn like on the original TMCC GP9 from 1996.

Many early switchers, like the SW7, had single-note “cow” horns. Might very well be prototypical for NYC.
The crew talk seems to be different than the usual ones I hear on Legacy engines but it could just be me.

I live in Chessie country so would probably go with that one, however, since Lionel put railing all the way around on the Maine Central, I would go with that one. If you look in the Catalog picturing the CSXT NW2, it was pictured with railing all the way around. All in all, color is not an issue with me, I like them with glossy bright colored paint. It looks like Lionel did a fine job on this run.

nice looking engine. is the cab back the red color as well. On the Lionel model, the cab front over the hood probably should be red/maroon to match the prototype.
Very nice switcher.
A thought to ponder....
Why is it that when a new engine comes out we can Google dozens of photos of a particular engine in two seconds and spend pages here on the forum commenting on the color variations, and the mfr's STILL can't get the colors right?????
😠

The cab back on the Lionel is red/maroon matching the prototype. Good catch on the Lionel cab front being painted back. I hadn't noticed that mistake.
Good to see and hear its a good runner and smoker! I will put this one on the top of my list in Southern!
Jim
Glad to hear the MEC New Lionel SW is a good engine from reports here.No offense, but I think the Porsche arrestmered body color plus pine tree arrestmered logo are a bit distracting though. I have painted a number of these MEC engines in the past. There are many different MEC heralds available. I guess the Lionel corporation is not that fussy about stuff like that. Oh well.

Hi Mike
Thanksfor checking on the cab color. I have mine coming soon and looking forward to it.
I got the Southern version of the Lionel SW7. There are spark arresters on top of the smokestacks that prevent you from refilling the smoke units. Has anyone figure out how to refill the smoke units on this version.

I have the same thing on my ATSF NW. They gently pull out - sometimes with a twist - to fill the fluid in the usual way.
Mine create interesting wisping patterns when the smoke gets going. I like them.
Thanks, Rider!
I reluctantly applied a little twist to the spark arrestor and it came free. There was a little glue that came along with it, but it fits snugly into the stack.
My ACL SW7 has the same problem and was unable to remove either arrestor. So will run it with smoke off until calling Charles Ro and asking them what to do. Also have the Legacy B&O GP9 torpedo version that has so much piping detail on top it is difficult to remove the hatch on top to lower the master volume.
Just curious - does the manual offer any instructions as to how to add smoke fluid ?
The manual shows the stacks without any arrestors on them. The arrestors should have been a separate detail to be added by the owners.
Well I just opened my new Chessie SW7 I received yesterday to set up to run. The Lionel gremlins strike again. The front electro coupler was swinging in the breeze. All the parts were there except the screw that holds the coupler. I lightly rolled the engine 360 degrees a few times and can’t hear the screw rattling in side, not in the box or the wrapping or shipping box. Everything was sealed in a plastic cover on the orange and blue box. No screw to be found. Took some pictures though for your enjoyment . If I had the screw I think I could fix it myself. Does H-10s come to mind? The wires aren’t stripped like Gunnerjohns was. Like most of us I’m very frustrated. One picture shows the screw hole may be striped, however I see yellow paint halfway through the hole (screw too short?)
