I recently purchased a new(old stock) MTH Little Joe with PS 2. When I powered it up, It made a fast start up sound then nothing and when I pushed the horn button, a short(less than 1 second) sound emanated and now no sounds at all. When I push start up(DCS) the lights come on, the pantographs function as intended, and it moves forward and back perfectly- just no sound. I checked the DCS remote and all sounds at on. OH, I also changed the battery with a fresh 2.4V MTH battery, and charged it 15 hours before using it. I am frustrated- any suggestions? Thanks -Rolf

Menu/Advanced/ Reset engine/ feature reset.....
Unfortunately, that didn't work- strange
have you tested the speaker?
Checked the volume pot and wires?
Do you get any sound with a track signal test?
how would I make a track signal test- all of my other MTH engines work fine with all sound effects ?
When the track signal is low, it's possible for the engine to get stuck in the signal test. That is the sound remains muted. An engine reset should have cured that.
I would then try 1 whistle 5 b from conventional no tiu installed that might work should hear 2 whistle toots if reset works

1W 5B Engine reset in Conventional mode
otherwise I would send board to GGG to repair or whole engine!

Check speaker, Speaker leads, connector and even wiring for pinch or break. After that board needs to be tested by a tech. G
Will do- It is brand new right out of the box- I will check all of the leads and if no luck, will contact the seller(Trainz)-thanks
You be surprised how many times a ""NEW"" Old stock engine sold on the secondary market has been actually used and or no knowledge of how it was treated or stored. Part of the reason manufactures set a time limit on warranty for that type of old stock. The engine has to be at least 5 years old already and could be as old as 12yr. G
I checked the odometer and hour meter and it had less than 1 mile and 3 minutes on it- I believe that this was new
What do we have that controls sound?
DCS remote
Menu/ sound/.... Bell volume, horn etc.
Number 4 softkey on/off
Feature reset,
Factory reset
A track signal test sometimes disables sound. A good battery is required to have anything stick(settings with the engine.
Conventional..... volume pot....
Battery, a dead or weak battery can do strange things with the sound.
Disconnected wire someplace.
Bad speaker.
I really like this checklist- will take it item be item- Thanks very much
looks like they were in '04, '10, and '13.
Which one this is, ?????
I had another PS2 3v 4ohm speaker with flaking on the magnet come thru. Still worked though.
