I have not done a steam loco repaint in a good while......the Williams NYC Dreyfuss was the last project. But when fellow forum member Richard E posted a photo of his very nice layout.....one loco looked familiar.  It was a cool looking little 4-6-0. I then realized it was a MTH entry level loco.....I had a few in my stash but none looked this good. I pulled one and saw the differences. Not sure if Richard had done anything to his loco but I figured I could make mine look as good.   So here is my starting point......

MTH460PRO

A very basic loco that runs well and though I can't recall what I paid I know it was very little. Should make a great backwoods loco. I can see it pulling this.....

Sorry so long between posts......I got drafted into doing all the artwork and printing for a wedding after other plans fell through. I had planned on being done by now.....but this other work and two days so nice I went driving in the 46 Ford have put me behind.

Only a small update. I removed the logo and numbers from the loco and the white running boards too.....I want a more 'work a day' loco than a dresser!

She will now get a coat of Dupli-color #1699 sealer as the hand rails will be painted for a more used look.  I removed all the white tampo by using a sanding stick ultra fine grit slowly removing the tampo. I didn't get all the white of the running boards but primer/sealer and then black semi-gloss will cover fine. I think she already looks better!! Thx

Got a little more done.....I cut the coal load out. I never liked the way the load looked. I understand why it is like it is......cheap to tool and room for electronics. But I thought it might be a way to improve the looks. Not sure I will do it again....lots of cutting and more work to gret the opening looking good. I also made hand rails at all four corners. Another little detail that will help in upgrading the looks of the simple loco.

More to come....thanks!!!

Dave,  I love the thread.  Thanks for sharing your project with us.  Is that a coat of primer on the tender shell or did you strip the paint? Looking forward to the rest of the project.

I sanded off the white lettering off the tender with a very fine sanding stick. Then sprayed with Dupli-color #1699 primer sealer.  thx
