What size and type of screw is used to mount to the bolster, or car body underside, a new MTH 4 wheel sprung truck. I bought a brand new set of trucks to mount on a car body I am building and no screws came with the set. Thanks for your help'..

What size metric screw fits the MTH 4 wheel sprung truck you sell, for mounting to the car????????
Might try phoning the MTH Parts Dept., and ask for Midge Wilburn. Or,,,,,,if she doesn't answer, leave he a brief voice mail with what you want to purchase, i.e. freight car truck mounting screws, with your name and phone number. She should call you back within a few days, unless she is on vacation. Also, don't forget to provide her with a valid MTH item number for the freight car, probably any freight car will do, since all their trucks mount the same way, i.e. the screw is INSIDE the car and threads into the truck bolster. I'm sure those screws a special with metric thread, and a wide flange under the screw head.
Most likely 3x6mm washer head.
Thanks very much' Hot Water and Chuck. 3x6mm washer head. I am putting these trucks on a brass proto 48 car that I'm converting from O scale to O gauge. I guess I'll need a different set of trucks that mount from the bottom, as I don't want to destroy this $300.00 plus box car'...I assumed the MTH trucks would work. Didn't realize they were bottom mounted.........when I ordered them....
Never a break some times'.........
I wouldn't use MTH trucks anyway, with the type of car you're describing go with Atlas O trucks. They also mount from the bottom ....

Well actually the MTH trucks are "top mounted", i.e. the mounting screw is on the INSIDE of the MTH car, and protrudes through the car bolster, threading into the MTH truck FROM THE TOP.
Now, you might check the size of the threaded hole in the MTH truck bolster, as a proper length 2-56 machine screw might pass through that hole, and then thread into the appropriate threaded hole of your boxcar.

Thanks Jeff, I wanted the Atlas trucks, but they are sold out everywhere. I meant to

You might contact Bill at Atlas O. You never know if he has some trucks rat-holed.

MTH is now selling the old Weaver design. These mount in the traditional way, plus the flat bolster is better suited to scale cars.
