Hi Guys,

Has anyone purchased or at least put their eyes on the new MTH Imperial S-2 Turbines. I recently purchased one (30-1786-1 Version) and when it arrived there were casting and paint cracking issues, along with the grey paint being super light on the boiler and the grey paint on the firebox was only painted with an outline stripe instead of the whole firebox being painted grey. See the pictures I have attached. What I need is for anyone who purchased or seen this version or the other roadnames to let me know if they have the same issues.

Thanks for posting - I'll be following this closely. I need another engine like I need a bullet in my head but I've always been a sucker for the Turbine....keep telling myself how nice it would be with my two Postwar turbines, 1 671 and 1 681.....

Would appreciate it if others posted and you could keep this updated if possible.

The firebox/ash pan area doesn't look bad. It's more of the grey being too light in color. It is way more noticeable in person than pictures. Especially on the boiler front. It is a major transition from Brunswick green to a light grey.

About the sounds: They are great! Very great turbine sounds and I really like the whistle. The voice used for the passenger stops is nice too because I have not heard this voice used previously.

Update: The whole batch matches what I am showing. My dealer showed me a Sunset Model done several years ago that matches this paint scheme, so I believe MTH might have just copied it with some minor changes. Here are some pictures of the tender and engine together. Overall the size is really great. It does not feel like a RailKing model, but closer to scale in size. It is 24-3/4" Long. This model has the "Manhattan Limited" Passenger Sounds, which was pulled at times by the S-2 Turbine in real life.

Here are some photos of the traditional (or prototypical) paint scheme for the S-2 #6200 Turbine. MTH Model # 30-1875-1.  The photos were taken with an iphone, so when uploaded to my PC I cannot figure out why they transition back to the original rotation even after rotating them and saving them on my computer. So I am sorry they are not in the proper position.

My family loves turbines and my uncle (who has all the postwar turbines including all variation and multiples of all of those) ordered one of the 6201 turbines. I really want one now after seeing photos of it. Thanks for sharing.

I feel the same way as mentioned in my earlier post....always loved the turbine but having the 681 and 671 originals, didn't see the need for another.

That didn't stop by. Called my dealer the other day and said "get me one"....

Well, I love turbines too but I have lost count how many berkshires I have. I really like this paint job and even the UP and C&O versions don't look too bad.

Did anyone notice that the paint scheme in MTH's youtube video doesn't match what customers are receiving.  In video, tender is plainer and firebox is only one color of grey, no lighter stripe.  Customers receive fancier tender (pinstriping) and firebox with added light grey stripe.  Is there more more than one version of this imperial model floating around?  Different part number?

I could be wrong but I don't think MTH put out a video for this most recent batch of proto3 S2 turbines.  The most recent Railking Imperial S2 proto-3 video that I could find was from 2012 for the 30-1561-1 and 30-1560-1 that were in their fall 2012 catalog and shipped in spring '12.  According to CTT's review of that 2012 loco MTH issued a service advisory to not operate until a resistor was added to protect the unit from permanent damage.

That is correct. If you had the 2012 issued turbine you could get the resistor and put it in yourself. But it would kill the engine if not fixed.

I will try to make a video this weekend of the 30-1786-1 (T-1 Lettering) Version.  MTH updated the whistle from the 2012 version and this one sounds way better.  Also, please note the 2012 paint scheme is different from this latest batch from MTH, so the one in the video that was posted earlier is not identical in sound or appearance. The grey is lighter and the ashpan/firebox is not fully painted grey. I personally love the T-1 Lettering. I would like to see the C&O version in real life. Does anyone have any photos of it?

I should have written this in my post: MTH released 2 versions in PRR. 30-1785-1 is the prototypical S-2 #6200 Paint Scheme.  30-1786-1 is a special T-1 Lettering scheme that has not been done before. I purchased the T-1 lettering scheme. I did also post pictures later on of the standard #6200 Scheme so everyone here can see them both in person versus just stock photographs.  RailKing models aren't normally taken out and pictures displayed by dealers since they are not Premier. But I feel imperials lately have been wonderful and deserve more spotlight as of late.

Also, MTH released a Chesapeake & Ohio Version (30-1788-1) and Union Pacific Version (30-1787-1)
