I see in the latest Mr. Muffin email that the new WTIUs are due to be on the water by the end of the month. If so that's great news as the Command void seems to be closing.

That's exciting news, Marty! Once I get my layout wired and the Base3 working, I will add DCS. That will most likely be later this year.
Definitely good news. My TIU died recently so I am looking forward to the new WTIU to get me back in service of my DCS PS engines.
If only we (public mortal users) could get the new version of the app, so it could be checked out by the masses- and avoid the total disaster that was the just before Christmas release?

Unfortunately, a couple of bugs, including one that affects the creation of lashups, have been identified in the just-released iOS version that will necessitate a subsequent revision early next month. iOS users may not want to update their app (if they don't have auto-update enabled) until the revision is released in January.
Can MTH R&D pull it off? Did they test it thoroughly this time around? Are they prepared and have the developer ready for a rapid release bugfix if so needed?
Also- where is Atlas on this? Remember, MTH R&D now has 2 different companies it is supplying control components to. I'd think they have some staked interest in this release.
We see what big L made (icons disappearing, app literally updated the day they arrived), can MTH do better?
Again, the bar has been set, and it's not very high.
Edit- quick- somebody get James Cameron- maybe he can "raise the bar".

the mth wtiu will be shipping August 22 or 23 and could be her by October York.
I have only one MTH PS2/3 locomotive at the moment. Most everything else is TMCC or Blunami, with a handful of conventional (awaiting conversion). I have a Cab3. I don't mind control via smartphone or tablet. So is there any reason not to order a WTIU, to open up the possibility of acquiring newer MTH motive power, when interested? Otherwise, my sole MTH PS2/3 loco is only run on the club layout.
Murphy's law always kicks in and of course my old TIU died in the middle of a world wide pandemic. Couldn't have planned that any better. Been waiting a long time for the new WTIU, happy to here there almost here.
Will the new WiFi unit also operate Lionel equipment through the TIU and Lionel Base1? I don't have a Legacy set and plan to use my phone to operate all locomotives with it. What features will I miss from my TMCC/Legacy pieces using this setup (with the TMCC Base1) Should I be on the lookout for a Base 1L instead? Am still not real clear with all this as I've not been running trains very often these past several years...
I believe the WTIU will indeed have a serial port like the old versions (so, yes)
Can a WTIU be mixed with TIU's with wifi ?

I don't see why not. You just won't be able to use your DCS Remote with trains on loops or blocks powered by the WTIU.

I hope so. As of now, I only ordered on WTIU which will do my main yard and tracks. My 2nd TIU does the rest of the layout. I will see if this works and plan to pick up a 2nd one.

With Legacy engines and a TMCC base you won't notice any difference than you operate now. Once a Legacy or Base3 is introduced and you use the MTH App then you get almost all of the Legacy features out of your Legacy engines including quilling whistle and 200 speed steps.

What about connected functions like Super TIU and AIU's. Seems like with mixed WTIU/TIU with Wifi you couldn't just use the remote to cover the entire layout.

I don't think the TIU's with wifi plugged in are Super mode capable.
Are you using two of them now?
Will be interesting to hear how operators like not having control of locomotives for awhile as they pass through that area on their layout. Will there be a rush of older TIU's and remotes on the market soon?

Maybe I'm just not paying attention, but it seems like there is not a lot of detailed advance info coming from MTH on the WTIU. Maybe there will be pleasant surprises which are under wrap like a new remote.

In your dreams maybe!

Yes, but where would we be without dreams.

Well, if you expect a new physical remote with the WTIU release, I'm not the optimist here!
