On October 18, 2012 a celebration of The Railroad Museum of Virginia will be held on museum grounds in Portsmouth, VA, which are near Court St. and in view of I-264.  The 1910-era N&W Engine No. 1134, one of The Lost Engines of Roanoke, now cosmetically restored, is the star.  The 4-8-0 had a 40-year career on the rails, but afterwards sat at Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal some 60 years.  The grounds also have a depot-style platform and two 1928 N&W mail cars, a NS caboose and a Wabash dining car.  The mail cars are restored and contain railroad artifacts arranged for viewing.  The loco was obtained as payment for moving the other Lost Engines.

Admission of $5 for adults is to be charged when the museum is open (Fridays and Saturdays only, 10 AM - 4 PM).

I live in Portsmouth, the parking is questionable down there, here's a topic I found on Railway Preservation News:

(the link to the museum website they have listed is broken)

They (our fellow forumite Windy was part of the restoration crew) did a fine job on the engine.

Hopefully I can get down there on a Friday as soon as it opens.  There's also the Children's Museum of Virginia on High Street just north of there.

The only thing I would have hoped for was that it would have been a Seaboard Air Line engine (Oh, the old SAL depot is down at the end of High Street) as Portsmouth was their HQ in the years before they moved to Richmond, here's what the building looks like today:
