I saw MTH will be producing a 4-6-2 Pacific in Western Maryland scheme. I was wondering if anyone from MTH would read this and be able to answer. Would MTH be able to move the headlight to the top of the locomotive in front of the smoke stack? Then move the number plate to the smokebox door? This would make it much more prototypical for the Western Maryland and closer to a K2 Pacific. Also the Western Maryland didn't have front steps. I understand if these modifications aren't possible, but if they are it would make the WM fans very happy.

*I have also sent a message directly to MTH. If I get a response I can delete this. I don't know which would provide a quicker, if any response.

I'm all in for a WM Pacific .. IF they make the modifications you suggest ... and IF it's a scale model.

What about the straight boiler and the Hodges trailing truck?  I'd think those would be important features as well.  I've always found these earlier Pacific designs to be so graceful and WM's are no exception.  Not sure how the MTH one could come close to WM's without major changes, but I don't want to discourage anyone from purchasing one if they like the paint scheme on the MTH model,

Thanks for pointing out those details.  Agreed, it sure would be nice to have those incorporated as well.    I regret passing on a Third Rail Western Maryland K2 at a train show several years ago.  As I recall that model was pretty much an exact replica of the WM K2.

All true. There's plenty of other specific details that would be needed to turn it into a K2, but to my knowledge MTH has never made a K2. I'm just thinking of affordable modifications that wouldn't need to be retooled. Things that would at least make if closer at a casual inspection, but definitely not perfect. Basically whatever can be done to modify existing tooling while keeping the price in-line.

I don't recall Third Rail (Sunset ?) ever making a Western Maryland K2. As far as I know no manufacturer has ever made a an accurate K2 in O gauge. The MTH version is far from being a K2.

The only accurate WM K2’s to ever be made in O scale were scratchbuilt brass by the late Ken Henry (I believe he did 5 over the years, will have to check my notes) and Frank Miller (who did 2, I think). The picture is of a Ken Henry K2. The brass importer Car & Locomotive Shops was going to do a WM K2, which would have been gorgeous, but unfortunately went bankrupt and out of business before the project came to fruition.
