Joe Hayter from Weaver Models asked me to post a photo of a proposed new car from Weaver.  The car makes use of their 40' fishbelly flatcar but set up with a scale 35' trailer van as a short TOFC car.  The car is similar to the car they have been offering as a 50' flatcar with a trailer but with mounting hardware for the shorter car.  Some of you may have shorter radius curves, like O-27, 0-30 or even 0-36 and the longer car either doesn't look right on the tighter curves or in some case, won't negotiate a tight radius.   The 40' car can generally handle any minimum radius currently in use.

Question is:  How many of you would opt for this shorter, but correct scale, car for your own layouts?  The car pictured is a prototype with no lettering.  There would, of course, be Weaver's usual array of railroad names and logos along with an attractive group of trailer van lines offered.  We would anticipate having the car ready for our Spring catalog in 2015.

I like these so much I already built a few. These pics are of New Ray trailers on Lionel/AHM and Weaver 40' cars, with fifth wheel hitches I designed and made from styrene. I also lowered the NR trailers to sit correctly on their wheels.

I know that 35/40 foot trailers on 50 foot cars are prototypical, but I prefer the "wall of trailers" look I get from shorter cars.
