Just picked up the windup 833 and the two cars with it. It's just like the other we got but this has handrails and siderods on drivers. It is a sparker and has a bell too. The driving wheels are tin with 6 spokes. Would that type of wheel make it an older engine? Also what would be the appropriate tender for us to get for this engine?  The other engine we bought with a box of stuff that had been in a garage attic since the 40's, so they said!. I believe it's a Canadian Pacific because of the tender which came with it. It has no motor and would love to get one for it, are they hard to come by? What should I look for specifically? What would the wheel configuration be, 0-4-2? Any info. you guy's can give on these would be great.Would love to go to the Big E train show,  an hour and half from us, could probably find stuff there don't you think? Thanks again to all, Tom

The 833's were only made from 1947-'53, so there isn't very much of a range of when they were produced.  This one would be earlier than the one with the die cast 17 spoke wheels, but with black stamped steel wheels, we can only narrow that down from about 1948 to the early 50's... hard to get too much closer than that with Marx.

The CP is an electric locomotive.  I'm not too well versed on electrics, so I'll let the other guys give details on it.  However, being a Marx, you should be able to find a motor for it without too much trouble.  Marx did make a windup CP prewar... but they didn't make very many, and they are very hard to find.  Too bad you didn't find one of those!
