Hey fellow railroaders!  I wish to suggest a weekly thread called TEAM TRACK TUESDAY.

I've been thinking of introducing this thread for quite some time now.  My thinking is that it can be a fun way to engage forum members in a weekly creative experience in scene making on our layouts.  Team tracks seem to always provide a variety of interest to me because there was always something new being unloaded or loaded each time I would drive by...be it a boxcar load of Christmas trees in mid November to be sold by the local Boys club, lumber being unloaded from a flat car or boxcar, heavy equipment being unloaded off a special kind of flat car, cement being unloaded from covered hoppers onto hopper trucks, maintenance of way equipment being stored for the weekend, the big hook unloading steel beams, etc.  I always loved the activity provided by what was ever on the team track!

One of the most frequently used sidings on any railroad is the team track.  Back in the day before motorized trucks and autos, wagons, pulled  by a team of horses, would be positioned next to ( or between ) freight cars parked on what came to be known as team tracks.   In the larger cities there would be many team tracks, adjacent to one another,  spaced far enough apart to drive a team of horses between the waiting freight cars.  Goods were transferred from the wagon onto the freight cars or vice - versa.  Later the horses would be replaced by gasoline engine powered trucks, however, the term " team track" stuck around.

Team tracks were for the general public, small business, and the like loading/unloading.  Another name used for " team track"  would be "The Public Delivery Track"  ( like the former OGR advertiser )  Even the smaller rural railroad stations had team tracks.

Here are some photos of whats being unloaded on team tracks on the Free State Junction Railway this week!  Lets see your whats being loaded or unloaded ( or even parked ) on your team tracks!!   Photos of real trains prototypical team tracks are also welcomed. As this initial thread is starting a bit late for this Tuesday feel free to add your photos on Wednesday or for that matter all week.   I'll be happy to start a new TEAM TRACK TUESDAY each week in the same spirit as SWITCHER SATURDAY and WEEKEND PHOTO FUN and other fine and interesting weekly threads here on the FORUM!

Hi, Patrick.

This thread is a great idea as the topic of team tracks is not often discussed.

I don't have a team track on my home layout although you have given me the idea to add one now; however, a dear friend of mine has an HO switching layout measuring two feet by 7 feet which we operate on occasion. Here are a few photos of my custom painted Rahway Valley GE 70 tonner working the team track located on the south side of the freight yard on his layout. The nice thing about a team track is it allows you to place a variety of freight car types on one siding while being able to justify it from a perspective of realism.

Thanks so much to all those who have "liked" and replied to this topic.  Welcome aboard TEAM TRACK TUESDAY!

Mario's Trains, Putnam Division, SDIV Tim, CNJ3676, Mark Boyce, Train Room Gary, Randy Harrison,

Tim - Thanks for your reply!  We would love to see any photos of your team track action!  Looking forward to your photos!!

Bob - thanks for your kind  words of support and your fabulous photos of your GE 70 tonner switching the team track on your friend's switching layout!  WOW!! What a great looking engine!!!   The Baltimore and Annapolis RR had one locomotive and it was a GE 70 tonner built in 1950.  It's now at the B&O Museum in Baltimore.  I'm glad this thread can provide some inspiration for you to build a team track on your home layout too!  Keep the photos ( and commentary ) coming!  AND ... your friend has a cool looking switching layout too!!

Mark - Glad you like the topic idea!  Looking very much forward to your team track photos!!

Gary -  I'm happy this thread can provide you with more inspiration for your "bucket list"!   Thanks for your reply and your kind words about my photos!  I hope you post some photos from your layout's team track!  We'd love to see them!

Randy - Thanks for those great circus train photos!!  I didn't even think about how circuses used team tracks to unload!!  Why of course!! Thanks so much for your contribution and words of support for this thread!  Keep those team track photos coming!

I'll start this thread next Tuesday morning ( much earlier than I did  yesterday ... last night ).

BTW - Bob made a great point about team tracks.  A variety of freight cars can be spotted on a team track and it makes for prototypical operation.  Keep the action happening on your railroads team tracks, take photos, and post them right here on this thread.   Real railroad team track photos are welcome as well. We can all inspire each other with our creativity!!!  Ah .. the versatility of the team track!!
