Don't think it is luck. Question is what is wrong with the base. Different one runs everything fine, his only runs certain engines, sounds like signal strength out.
Or tuning, which gives the same symptoms.
I was actually trying to be a bit funny. I guess the smiley faces aren't doing the trick anymore. I believe that Dale is onto the most likely cause. Since it's running many locomotives properly, I'd give the tuning a try first.
Well, tuning worked! Now all 4 of our locomotives work prefect. I think now that I can run them with the Cab-1 correctly, I'm beginning to see why people like command control. Guess we'll see as time goes on just how deeply the bug bit me.
As for the tuning, using Dale's excellent instructions, it seems it was already at the edge of my son's good locomotive. It didn't take much for it to not respond. Once I turned it the other way everyone started responding. Upon close inspection once I had the base open, it seems that someone may have been in it after all. There was a bit of that blue lock stuff they put on adjustable electronics on the case of the pot, but it was missing from the screw like it had been scrapped off.
And my one bad Cab-1 seemed to be working correctly too, but I'm still weary of it for now. Dale M., do you repair those as well as the command bases?
Anywho, thanks all for sticking with it and helping me get back on the 'right track!'
Now, how about changing the title to something a little less negative, like, "New to TMCC, and Need Assistance".

Has tuning worked on R2LC and LCRX that don't seem to perform well? I have played with one LCRX that would not work, yet never could get it to perform well. Once replace the unit worked great even with antenna not connected.
I've had a weak R2LC that would give me trouble with both TMCC and Legacy, clearly it was the board and not the signals. It was an older one with the can, but tweaking that didn't seem to help it.

Same here. HAte it when they don't work. Tried to find the chip on line, but only got a large through-hole style. Been thinking about jumping it in to see if it works. G
