It is with profound pleasure, that I’m happy to report there was no wrong doing on the part of the New York Central operators manning this equipment, after careful review, we find the PRR at fault for shotty train control ( typical practice for that class 1 road) .......had the shoe been on the other foot, the trains would have passed by one another safely & soundly,.....😁😁😁

On my layout, I have a very easy and highly technical method of preventing head on collisions like this.   I just don't have any switches between the mainline loops, hah hah.   But this method prevents terrible head on collisions.   But i have still had some bad collisions.   Most of mine occur when the train comes uncoupled while the operator and crew are not on their toes and looking.   The train nearly never goes into Emergency when it breaks as it should.  It finishes making the loop and wham.   And for some reason, my collisions of this nature are nearly always much worse than yours, unfortunately.

I was really surprised too that there were not terrible effects from that collision with those two heavy trains and locos, but very glad it was not bad.    Thank you for sharing the video.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and the commentary is hilarious!

It really helped get rid of that sinking feeling I had when this happened.

In the end I posted it as I knew folks could get a chuckle.

The reefers behind the mohawk were brought out onto the outer loop across that turnout, and it was never reset to through.

Worst train accidents I've ever had were with 18009 New York Central 3000. One Christmas the fireman's side piston took a header into the radiator pipe going up to my room(track was not screwed down and plywood also slid). The other was the great rug debacle which was a ton load of track I laid out, having as many cars pulled behind as it could pull. What wound up happening was that dang thumbtack coupler connected with the third rail and blew out the spring inside. 3000 has never pulled any freight since. But that will change when she gets back from her upgrade.
