I just purchased an older Hudson with Proto 2 equiped. I was able to program to the DCS and it ran fine. Next day when I ran it the engine didn't respond to the system. I deleted the engine then I added it again and it ran fine. Now I know this isn't how this supposed to work so there is a problem here. Is it a possibility that there could be a problem with the battery in the engine?

Thats usually the sign of a battery that will no longer hold a charge. Best replace it with a NiMH rather than another NiCad.

Yep battery problem for sure or at least 99%
Pete,

FTI...
NiCad batteries, although they over time will suffer from "memory effect" and will take fewer charges than will NiMH batteries, are better suited for engines are not run often, since they will hold a charge longer than will NiMH batteries.
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
That is a 2001 engine with a 8.4V battery. I would replace with a new fully charged battery. G

BG-4000005 is MTH part number, but any 8.4V NiCad or NiHM battery will work. I think even Walmart carries an Eveready Version. G
All great information from the guys. If your battery is white, THROW IT AWAY and install a new battery.
