newbie still learning, width of O gauge Fastrack?

I'm working on my first O layout, to run on a shelf, alongside an HO train. I have learned just about everything there is to know about the dimensions of Fastrack EXCEPT the width of a straight section. I'm talking edge to edge, not rail to rail. I need to know if this track is going to fit on my shelf, or if I am going to have to add a shelf. Can someone share the width with me?

Edge to edge width is 3 1/2 inches.
