Your cell phone is a rectangle that has less mass, no free standing parts and is essentially a solid object. But, as you say it has a few scratches, so therefore didn't quite survive unscathed.
I can drop my old Bell pushtone phone from my desk with the same results.
Seriously, do we expect the train makers to drop their products onto the floor from workbench height before shipping to see if they don't break, then pack them up?
Or maybe drive over them with a Humvee like they do for the Atomic Beam flashlight...
