Greetings All,

I'm in the Poconos/ Stroudsburg for another 24 hours before returning back to KY.  Today I'm headed down to the City, to see some things, and take in some local cuisine.  While I'm there, I was wondering if it is possible to visit the NJH Layout on a non-operating day?  I know this is last minute, but I thought I would ask since I don't really know anybody that is a part of the NJH Group.

Thank you for your time and input.

Regards,

James

Thank you to everyone who replied, and to Mike for reaching out to me via email.  The communication was very much appreciated, especially considering I had such a constricted timeline.

First and Foremost, Thank you Bernie for taking an hour out of your day, to show me the Layout, and also explain some of the backstories behind various components and aspects of the Layout.

Having never seen a layout of the magnitude of the NJH, it is an awesome mixture of creativity, craftsmanship, details, and a multitude of operating options.  Though the layout was in non-operating mode, it was still a pleasure to see the scope of the layout, and see what everyone is talking about when topics pop up about running trains on the NJH.  Maybe if there is a next time, I will be able to see the layout actually operating.

The Scale Refinery is intricately detailed.  Was very interesting learning the history behind its origin.  The micro-details and super-detailing of the pipes blew my mind.  I couldn't even begin to fathom the man-hours it took to put it together the first time, nor putting it back together after its transcontinental trip.

I love these tandem Bucyrus Steam Shovels.  They caught my eye, and I am amazed at their sheer size.  Was not aware that Die-cast Direct or a comparable company made such large pieces.  Not sure I want to know how much these monster machines cost....

I shot this from the balcony/ control center platform.  And these were shot with my recently acquired S6 Active, thus there is some fuzziness in my images, as I am still learning the functionality.  Would have used my DSLR, but well I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to see the layout, thus I didn't bring it in.

Hi James

Don't know how I missed this thread  Sorry I couldn't have met you and run some trains.  ( All Erie Lackawanna )  The refinery is 10 modules that have been placed to the best of our ability to match  If you look close most of the pipes don't connect to anything.  Don't tell anybody  Its a super secret.  The complete refinery that was modeled was over 30 modules so you can guess the size of the real thing.

Those two Bucyrus Erie Mining shovels are made by a company called TWH.   The first one we got was pretty expensive.  The second one was $500.00 from a fellow forum meber.  This particular model was a special run that was given as an award to Bucyrus Erie employees .  You can see a review of it here

If your in the area again just email me direct and I will make sure we are in operating mode.

Ben
