I recently purchased on eBay the Lionel UP boxcar with operating break man 6-30188. Boy, is it noisy. I'm wondering if anyone has figured a way to soften the noise level on some of these accessories?

If you think thats noisy, try the Lionel operating news stand with the vibro motor.....certainly would like to quiiet that one down.....

John,
I have several of the MTH operating brakeman cars and they're all very quiet when operating.
Ah, you kids would take the fun out of everything ! They're SUPPOSED to be noisy.
Truthfully, part of the appeal for me IS the noise: I remember when these things were NEW. The Vibrotor would actually interfere with the TV reception.
Keep in mind that these things were both high tech and quite ingeniusly designed for their era.
But just in case it's really bothersome, mail them to me. I won't mind.

That's the set # the car was included. The car # is 6-29320p.
So, what's noisy?
It's a DC motor, not a vibrator, controlled by a power board.
Are you hearing gear noise, squeaking from the gear shafts, motor noise?
Hi Carl,
I appear to be hearing motor noise, and a lot of it!
The motor and gears may benefit from some light oil. Getting into the car may be a whole different story.
If it's a small motor being run at high rpm, that may not be solvable.
The parts and the motor are available from Lionel. Perhaps a call to Lionel customer service would be beneficial. if they have received this complaint before, they may have an undocumented fix or be able to offer a suggestion. 586-949-4100 ext 2
I get your frustration with the noise. It shouldn't be that annoying.
Thanks Carl, I will follow your good suggestions!
