Hello all an interesting Norfolk & Western Class J in standard gauge recently surfaced .
Constructed of brass, steel, & wood. Unknown if this was a one off or model for possible production. Powered by one build a motor on rear set of drivers . Chassis , trucks , and scale of engine is very similar to that of a Lee Lines Daylight .
Dana Lee Barlow was busy planning and building additional pieces to follow the Daylight , some of his ideas went to 1 gauge production others never materialized ..
The Class J is a bit longer than the Daylight due to spacing of drivers . This engine never ran in a circle due to all drivers are flanged ..center drivers would need to be bald as found on the Daylight to have any hope for turning any sort of reasonable radius .
Not claiming the J is by Dana ..but very similar in design . Hopefully the new " Not your daddy's standard gauge book" (history of modern era standard gauge) may have more clues about the J .
Other Class J's in,Standard Gauge
John Harmon with John Kress made a J ..much larger scale, Jim Waterman has built a few J's modifying the Lee Lines Daylight castings .
Yes numbered #746 ....same as Lionel O gauge model.
