Hi all,

Recently I have been looking at the NS Executive Office Car special engines and have been looking at the passenger cars that follow behind it.  I found MTH makes some:

I've seen the 70' and the 60', but I have not seen the observation car that usually appears in the rear with the windows on the roof.

A few questions:

Does any other manufacturer besides MTH make these?

Does the observation car that belongs in this train exist?

Best,

James

You have me confused here as NS does not have an "observation car with windows on the roof". The ONLY car NS has with "windows on the roof" is 24 (a.k.a. 'Delaware') which is a full length  dome   car:

As for the car that usually brings up the rear that should be 23 (a.k.a 'Buena Vista') which is a theatre-observation car:

Other (more traditional) observation cars such as 5 (a.k.a. 'Maryland') are in the fleet too:

Please also note a number of NS passenger cars are considered 'Research' cars, not business/office cars too. You can find more information about the NS passenger car fleet at the below link:

Please note as NS has overhauled/rebuilt the fleet window arrangements may have been changed. So it is very likely any O-gauge models will not be an exact match.

As for what MTH has offered in NS passenger cars go here:  MTH Norfolk Southern passenger cars

You can use the MTH Product Locator to search for stuff like this. Be advised they have a few variations on showing/spelling 'Norfolk Southern' so I suggest using the drop down menu 'Choose a roadname' to look at all entries. Don't forget to select 'Passenger Car' in the 'Choose a product classification' drop down menu then click the 'Search with Advanced Search' to see the results.

Hope this helps you out!

645,

Thank you for all the information!  I did mean the dome car.  Thanks for pointing me in the correct direction.  I was just wondering if any other companies have made these.  I will have to do some more research and familiarize myself with the specifics on the train.

There is one special painted office/lounge observation car that is owned by the former NS Chairman Charles "Wick" Moorman, called Sandy Creek. It was originally a New York Central 20th Century Limited sleeper lounge observation car, owned by a private railroad museum before him. The class number on it is RPCX 800321 and it was sometimes ran on the OCS if "Wick" Moorman was on the train. From what I understand he still has the car, but I am not sure if it still has the same paint scheme due to his departure from Norfolk Southern in 2015. MTH did make this car with their 5 car set.
