There is a similar (but still growing) thread at: OGH
Quickly, you can Imagine a Rainbow.... then you know the colors AF applied to prewar O gauge...or nearly so!!!

Flyer made O gauge passenger cars for ~34 years from small 4½" tinplate to 3/16" scale coaches. could you describe more clearly the type you may have seen or the era you are talking about?
like the 3282 it is the end car of a passenger set. also if i was able to save the old paint should i or should i just strip it and put new paint on it. ( i bought a set that was painted black was red under the black.   hope to hear from you guys/gals soon.
the old paint has no gloss to it at all. like i said i had to remove a layer of paint over it to get to it. now i have to pick if i want to save the old paint or should i repaint it? so far i am leaning to save the old paint.
These cars I believe to be Nos. 3280, 3281 & 3282. It appears the red paint is original, but Doyle's AF Trains book only shows them in two-tone blue. Nice "deluxe-looking" cars with all the parts intact and really worth the restoration. I would repaint them in a nice gloss bright red because they have brass trim, but the blue is nice looking too. Have fun restoring them!
I forgot to mention the passenger cars pictured in the Doyle AF Trains book appear to be painted (teal blue or turquoise) similar to the "Presidential Set" in wide gauge.
the 3280-81-82 series (9½" passenger cars) ranged in colors from blue to blue-green to an almost green shade, but it was never listed as being in red livery. here are two links to the CTT Flyer string that specifically show these cars...

the first set has the red tank/ battery box under the frame, and the second does not. besides some special set car names (Golden State, etc) this was the only difference in these cars.
perhaps your set was painted more than once.
i have started to strip one of the cars of its paint. so far so good. just takes time i guess. next i will be looking for a good red to paint the car. ( yes i know i should prime it first and will do it) just keeping you guys/ gals up to date.
