i won't be back to my reference books until this coming weekend, but in case you would like to start your own Flyer library, the first and sometimes only book you might need for a while would be the Greenberg, "American Flyer Prewar O Gauge" publication by Alan Schuweiler.  although the previous edition was not completely worthless, Schuweiler introduced the "Type" system which chronically sorts the tremendously confusing Flyer numbering system(s) used throughout their O gauge production years.  frankly the diecast era (~1932 - 38) of Chicago Flyer, which yours is an example of, is probably the most jumbled of all.

hang in there, though.

your question is definitely in the right sub-forum.

Chuck... check your activity stream (click on your icon at the top of the page).  this string has appeared in at least three sub-forums and it appears your other reply was to the S gauge string.

i tried to indicate that it was correct in appearing as a Tinplate topic, but it might have been too late by that time.

to the OP, i noticed your followup about the locomotive's operating condition in yet a different string.  if i could suggest you try to consolidate questions about a single locomotive to a single string, i have a feeling you will get a better response.

cheers...gary
