O scale model of an adjustable length loading 12-axle railcar similar to GEX 711.
This is a concept car model that is similar to the GEX 711 railcar owned by GE. The model allows for adjustment of the car length to match a custom load like the prototype. The model is designed for 3-rail operation. The model uses 4 pair of RailKing 3-axle trucks.
No attempt was made to reproduce all details of the prototype since the model is intended for O scale operation and not a display model.
Prototype GEX 711 railcar:
This unique railcar is owned by GE. The car is designated as GEX 711. The car has 12-axles. The supports for the load can be adjusted to match the length of the load. It appears that the GE car is used to transport boilers or other similar cylindrical shaped loads. The "saddles" which support the load are movable as necessary depending on the length of the load.
Prototype Specifications:
Capacity: 781,000 lbs.
Light Weight: 98,000 lbs.
