Al and others,

I'm not a CP modeler, but I have always like the CP hudson ever since I was a kid, some 50 years ago. I keep looking at the Weaver CP engines but wonder how well they hold up, how good do they run and if the sound and smoke units are any good.

Would appreciate hearing from you Weaver CP guys as to the pro's and con's of Weaver steam.

Weaver Hudson, Coal or oil

 The Hudson you see is an MTH Premier PS2 from a few years ago, that I repainted to more accurate colour.

   The Weaver Royal Hudson was an ice breaker with us living north of the 49th parallel at the time, as no O scale models of any big Canadian steam had been produced (1990 approx)

  Having said that, it is fairly accurate for the 2860 version but not as accurate for the 2858 version (should be Commonwealth instead of Buckeye tender trucks)

  These models came out before TMCC , so just plain drive train with can motor.

   I would recommend any of the MTH versions before the Weaver due to lack of command control

I like to vary the ''era's '' I operate in. (Anywhere from 1950's to the mid /late 70's.)  Here's a couple pictures from last weekends operating session.  3 passenger and 5 freight runs in 3 hrs......... and that includes the one ''near miss'' at the diamond !   We ended with clearing a slide on the Kettle Sub.  

Here's my CN set. Spent a lot of time as a kid in Westport, Ontario.

Here's a few more views from my Pacific & Great Western O Scale Division. Hope I get the caption order right. The first shot is taken showing the west entrance of the 5 mile tunnel. 2nd photo is looking downward towards a snow shed along the Rogers Pass area. This area is only 18 inches wide.  Next is a view of the Glacier View Lodge. This is still in the uncompleted stage.  Next is a shot of the bustling downtown Water Street. Finally, the diesel shops with a consist of SD 40's being prepared for a 671 potash train.  

Myles the Glacier View Lodge is fantastic.  What did you use to build it?

The Glacier View Lodge is actually simpler to build than you might think. I started with a paper drawing I sketched up.   I then cut foam core picture board and braced it with 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch wood cut on the table saw. Once the general design was achieved I white glued stained 1/4 inch dowel on the exterior surface. The entry arch and restaurant front are made the same way. I used Faller brand textured Matt board for the stone.  The room windows are temporary and will be cut out at a later date. The roof is just a smooth surface ready to be overlayed with home made shingle strips made from wood laminate that will be stained with an alcohol and India ink solution representing aged cedar. When fully covered, it will really make the structure 'pop'. Here's more layout views showing Water Street, the 'Shifters' car show, the town of Golden, still under construction, and finally, an over head view of the roundhouse and the section house at Mara Lake.

I'm a big fan of early ' GM-645 ' power and your CNR SD-40 looks great, even when it's set up in trailing position! Keep up the great work!

There's one more project I've been working on, and that's my portable 'O' Scale modular layout that I run at train shows.  The ''Mexicali Grande ''. (It's modeled after US and Mexico but built here in Canada!   So does that classify it as ''Canadian trains'' in this particular portion of the forum?,   No, not really but we'll call it a ''leased loco''). This layout is also two rail but southern desert scenery and a variety of Mexico's finest!   I'll be setting it up this coming weekend at the railway show.  I'll try to find an appropriate O Gauge Railroading topic site to post some pictures on.  But for now, here's a picture of one of the loco's I use to run on the display and a few other of the home layout.   Enjoy.    

Hello fellow Canadian railroad fans! There has been a proposal for producing a Central Maine and Quebec locomotive. The CMQ has been recently purchased by the CP. I think it has a very attractive paint scheme.
