For quite a while I have been using the Atlas O motor bearing lube and conducta lube on my locomotives and cars...
I have been using Labelle products for many years.
I use Labelle 102 and 107, and an oil called liquid bearings.

I'll second the Labelle 102. Its called a "gear lube" but its really just a "heavier" light oil.
IMO it works better on O guage trains than "lighter oils" because its thicker and stays where its put. Lighter oils tend to run off and reoiling needs to be done more frequently.
I prefer it for all my o guage stuff, axle bushings, steam rods, motor shaft bushings etc.
Thanks guys,
I had been using LaBelle, just wanted to make sure I was in the right track.
I did not realize that Atlas had a product also.
BTW: the LaBelle works great on my beard trimmer

Most of the "brass" bearings found on Lionel trains are "Oilite" bearings. These are oil impregnated porous bearings. I like to use a light oil in the hope that some of the oil will soak into the pores.
Below are links to an article on the invention of Oilite bearings, and a chat board page discussing how to re-lubricate them.
Mobil 1 synthetic oil.
5/10W-20/30 motor oil. I have been using it for 50+ years. It never dries out or gets gummy. I also lube the commutators and this results in lower friction for the motor. I have been doing this for 5 years with no ill effects.
Ends of Axels: Labelle
Outside gears: Lucas Red and Tacky 2
Inside dears: White LI Grease.
