One of the great advantages of a digital subscription to OGR is the ability to look at and download old issues. For example, the June 1975 issue has a fine article on a buyers guide to old steam locomotives written by W. Randolph. He covers all the oldies including Hines, scale craft, all nation. His comment about buying the International brand is hilarious, “Run, do not walk to the nearest exit.”
There are several articles written by Bob Turner regarding modification and scratch building of locomotives that are well worth the read. He was frequent contributor on this forum with great advice, but as of late, and for reasons that I don’t understand is incommunicado.
At any rate there are lots of oldies but goodies in those past issues from the 70s and 80s.
