That conductor had to be confused as heck haha I wouldn't expect to find a car back there!
There was a woman in a car hit by a train in Wilkes-Barre yesterday. Fortunately, she wasn't seriously hurt. The circumstances leading to the accident haven't been determined yet. This is a fairly busy road with no gates.

Wonder where the Engineer was, if the "conductor" had to activate the emergency brakes? Journalism is dead!
@Hot Water well ya see, the conductor drives the train and the steam is the smoke that comes out the top! Just like the hit n miss engines at the county fair haha
OMG!
Lucky, indeed.
When I saw the title of this thread, my first thought was that it was going to be about my girl friend.
It could be a conductor riding a shove platform with access to a handle to activate the brakes.

Nope. If you viewed the story and the photos, the lead units were plainly shown, stopped short of the vehicle.
My father-in-law lived in New Philadelphia, and Dover (where the lady was from) is just outside there. I'm familiar with the area, but didn't know where Girard, OH was. Looking it up on the map, it is an easy 50 miles (as the crow flies) from Dover. If she was heading back home, she was very, very lost.
.
Wow, look where she was! A sweet Grannie ... confused ... thankfully it ended well.

Hot Water ... do you know how Bob Krieger passed? A sudden illness?
I was very sorry to learn of his passing. Such a nice guy, in addition to being an important man in the steam community.

Yes.
A sudden illness?
No. Diabetes.

Yes, so was I. We were long time friends, going back to 1981. I spent many, MANY trips as his Fireman on 844 and/or 3985.

Did any of you give a thought that the conductor actually saw the car before the engineer and used the emergency brake valve that is on his side of the cab?
I agree with Hot Water. Journalism is dead.
I know EXACTLY where this happened. I used to run on this line when I was with the Ohio Central. This is the Norfolk Southern Lordstown Secondary. It is class 1 track, and the speed limit is a blazing 10 mph. That why they got stopped within the range of their headlights.
If this breathless, hyped-up story is what leads on the WKBN news tonight, local news remains a huge joke.
