Hello everyone,

I've seen this once before and i decided to construction a few. Let me give you some details, It's constructed with all 1/4 Masonite

and 1x2 pine ripped down to 3/4 by 3/4. I installed a Lionel 27 ohm smoke unit underneath, for the smoke effect. I left the smoke unit stock

because it has the perfect smoke output for this type of scene. I also installed 3 flickering LEDS for the fire affect. When complete the engine will

trigger the smoke and flickering effect, the engine wheels will complete the circuit. If you want to see it live, it will be at the NJHi-RAILERS Trainstock show.

This is such an eye catching scene, and brings a lot of action, interest, and realism to a layout. It will be able to be bolted right up under

a layout when it's complete. The smoke unit can be easily serviced if and when necessary, smoke fluid can be simply added from inside the ash pit .

You can also control the amount of smoke output by simply adjusting the voltage. There's still more to do on this ash pit, again see the completed unit at the NJHi-Railers Trainstock show.

Thanks for looking, enjoy,

Alex

THAT is really very impressive!

May I offer a suggestion? Instead of using coal in your ash pit, try and find some coal stove ash/clinkers, and smash them up with a hammer. Better yet, if you happen to have a "live steam group" near your area, get a coffee can of their ashes/clinkers and smash that up with a hammer. Steam locomotive ashes are more light in color than fresh black, unburned coal.

Great modeling effect!

Good point Hot Water.

It sure helps to have a real railroader or two on board this forum.
