D667671E-9A53-41B9-BDD4-AB5315C60DEAHello, have a new-to-me EL PA diesel #6-18116.  I think this is circa 1993.  Pulled the shell off to inspect it & it has vertical can motors with no obvious lube points.  I guess  I need to remove the trucks to lube a gearbox, but removal of the machine screw (red marker) yields no release of the truck. Prying with a tongue depressor was no help.
  What next ?

Thanks as always,

Rich

As I recall, you also need to remove the center rail pick up. To do that, you need to remove the shell (6 screws) and then turn the truck slightly so you can get the screw driver in from above the frame. The fun is in the reassembly, as you need to be certain that the wire lug attached to that screw  does not hit the frame when the truck turns.

BTW, don't over tighten the shell screws! You will crack the mounting posts.

I hear you about 30 year old rubber tires! As long as they are flexible, I think you will be fine. In my experience, if the spares are bad, they break as you try to install them. I went through about 6 one day, breaking everyone. Ordered new ones, and they were just fine. Just remember to keep oil and grease away from them. They cause the tires to expand and slip.
