I just unpacked a Lionel 6-9585 Chessie Steam Special Observation car and when I did one of the axles fell out.  I went to re-install it but the plastic piece it rides in is missing on one side.

Anyone know the part number?

I tried looking at Lionel.com but I couldn't find anything.

Thanks

I apologize for the photo quality I just could not get a good pic.

See how there is an empty rectangle right about                                        ^^^^^^ there?

I need the part that goes there.

I know the manual from Lionel says this car uses the part Box Car Bill posted but that is not what is in this car.  Unless you are supposed to cut that part into 3 pieces.

On the truck should be little notches above the square opening that the bearing slides into. It's those little notches that hold the strip of three bearings in place. Without the strip, I don't see how the bearings would be held in. Maybe the strip broke off on your truck, and that is why the bearing fell out.

I've had issues with those bearing strips on a few trucks.

I have not run across any trucks were the bearings were individual pieces.

Of course that does not mean they do not exist.

Garfield, C.W. is correct. Those 3 notches in the truck align with the 3 protrusions on the bearing strip and hold it in place.

What does the other truck look like? Does it have the strip or the individual pieces?

If they are like the truck in question, I would order 4 of the bearing strips and replace the individual pieces on both trucks and you should be good to go.

You guys are right.

I got it under some better light and saw it has the strip with 3 bearings.  The bottom is broken out of the one in the pic.

I am going to give the seller a chance to make it right before I order the part.

If that doesn't work out, how do I get a hold of you Boxcar Bill?

Thanks everyone for your help!
