I don't expect to have scale cars within the "classic O" size. i do have issues with passenger sets containing cars the real train NEVER had. Example: The CONGO having dome cars. Maybe those should be add on cars if somebody wanted them.

I don't mind after all they are all toys to me, just to have fun. As I ignore the middle rail as well.

I Have two weaver C&NW dome cars. The only two in existence that I know of. Model or Prototype.
the PRR never had any Pullman-bradley cars either!
I misunderstood your title. I was imagining passenger cars that no RR ever had, that you could build, like the hot tub car, the workout/gym car, etc., the movie theater car (actually, I think those did exist?). One could have fun with that idea.
Did ConRail have passenger cars? I kinda doubt that they did...
I just scratch built a Conrail camp car. They never had one like mine .If it looks good who cares?

Hot tub car? Is this an upcoming story line? Things that go when the kids are in bed. Buy the Way Your lay out is great.

The prototype aquarium car was actually a passenger car - a baggage car that they installed tanks in to take fingerlings from the hatchery to the lakes. If I remember correctly it was operated by the Milwaukee Road and the Wisconsin Fish & Game. Soo Line might also have had such a car - I forget.

CR did have a biz train.

The PRR was thinking of such a rec car for the PENN TEXAS.

Here 'tis... Shedd Aquarium's car.

Actually, that's different from the car I was talking about. I had forgotten about the Shedd Aquarium car entirely. Thanks for posting.
Just a reminder that Conrail did own revenue passenger equipment, even if it wasn't lettered for Conrail; a quick example is the [ ex-EL ] Cleveland-Youngstown train which lasted until 1/77. I think there may be other examples in the 1976-1981 era as 'stuff' was conveyed to Metro-North and the other eastern agencies.
Best, SZ
Doesn't really matter to me whether the passenger car is prototypical or not, if I like it, that is reason enough to have it on the layout.

Lee,
I think that all of those cars did exist. About 10 to 20 years ago there was a privately funded Reno Fun Train that ran between the SF Bay Area and Reno, NV. The passenger cars were heavily modified to provide all kinds of "fun" I am told.
The private train no longer exists but the Fun Train is still in operation. It appears to be a joint venture between Amtrak and private tour companies. You have to be at least 21 to ride the train.
You can definitely get a hot tub in Reno.

If I recall correctly this Amtrak full-length dome is one-of-a-kind on their roster and used only on specials. Seen at Emeryville in 2006.
Actually a few years back NCDOT (Amtrak) ran a full dome the Mount Mitchell. K-Line did model it.
Ocean View (ex-GN) is the last dome that Amtrak has. It makes the rounds as a "special" car. It was out in July on the Montrealer.
The Mount Mitchell (ex- MILW) is not an Amtrak owned car. NCDoT owns/owned that car.
BUT Amtrak owned 111 domes at one point (most from the BN pool) when it started.
I let all my PRR & NYC dome cars go in the bay but if you like them, It's your railroad and you run what you like. That's the fun of model railroading. I just picked up the PC railking passenger cars and will probably let the dome go also.
I have a MTH Seaboard Air Line dome car that my wife bought me, not knowing SAL never owned them.
I'm planning to take it apart and use parts from it where I can, trucks, ends, seating, diaphragms, lighting circuit can be put to use on other projects. Some of you might think taking a car apart for this is extreme, but buying individual parts like this will most likely exceed the cost of the whole car. As it is, I rarely put it on the layout anyway, so I'll use the parts I need and store the shell in the original box.
Until my Lionel CZ coaches arrive, I'm running Polar Express coaches behind my Burlington F3 A-B-A set. Surprising enough, they don't look too strange.
I have a 18" Boston and Maine set from a few years back. Since the B&M never had the vista dome and the boat tailed obs, those stay in the box.
The Southern didn't have a full Vista dome but MTH did offer the car as a add-on.
Seaboard Airline didn't have any dome but did roster 3 Sunlounge car:
"Miami Beach"
"Hollywood Beach"
"Palm Beach"
