Should MTH rerun the Pennsylvania Aero Train? If they would, what changes would you like to see?

Jimmy,
I remember that train as a kid motoring eastward every afternoon. Us kids called it "The New Train" because it was so shined up and different from other Pennsy varnish that we watched.
I think that the MTH set is semi-scale. I would like a scale sized set with the latest electronics and better pulling and traction.

I'd like to see them redesign the rear truck to get rid of those "pony" wheels and improve it's running reliability!

The script "Aerotrain" lettering on each side of the locomotive should be raised and chorome plated
I sure hope Rich Foster reads this.
I would like to see more realistic lighting instead of one bulb in the front.
Mine has two headlights and I added operating ditch lights on the outside.
This is one of those sets that I was sad about losing the most back in the early days of hearing about MTH closing and we all wondered if any other manufacturer would pick production back up. Aerotrain, Turbo Train, Train of Tomorrow.
While there are a lot of Aerotrains out there, I think there is always demand for more runs.
At this stage of the game though, what are the odds MTH would sink any more design money into it?

Ron,
A manufacturer would sink more design money into it if it anticipated selling enough of the new design to overcome that design money investment and also generate a nice profit at the same time.
This largely depends on how many are expected to be sold. Anybody have a guess?
There are a number of posters above implying that they might buy, if their specific requirements are met. What, if anything, does that suggest for possible sales figures?.

Note the EMD demonstrator Aerotrain model has yet to be made.
MTH has not made indication whatsoever that intends to offer any new tooling or design changes for existing products. It is simply using old tooling to make very limited runs of paint schemes, mostly for hobby dealers.
I would have to agree with Jim, I can't imagine the slimmed down MTH doing any new tooling, the costs are way beyond anything they're going to contemplate! The best you can hope for is a retread Aerotrain with the existing tooling if they still own it, certainly not anything more. New paint jobs seems to be the limits of their "new" designs.
Hey John...
Yep...I picked up on the same pattern. Although I have seen some nice "special run" engines (Indiana Harbor Belt for example).
Been waiting to see the PS3 conversion kits too...bubkiss.....

Thats pretty much what I sad just above Jim's comment. lol. MTH made several runs of the Aerotrain over the 15+ years was out, in all the proper road names. I would assume the market has largely been tapped out.
