I happened to stumble upon this article that has some interesting artwork, painted by Ernest Fiene who grew up in Germany.  My grandfather worked for WABCO and US Steel and I spent many Summers in the 1960's into the 1970's in Western Pennnsylvania, so I find them appealing. His paintings capture a sense of what the steel mills, plants, coal mines and communities were like in the region during the time he toured Pennsylvania and West Virginia in 1935-36.

The article is very interesting.   His style captures the dark industry of those times that was Pittsburgh.  There is another artist that painted in the same style.  His name was Roy Hilton (1892-1963).  I saw some of his works at the Westmoreland Museum of Art in Greensburg.   I have some of his note cards.

Their style marches with those difficult times of depression, that's for sure.
