On my last layout I wanted a trailer park. The only thing I could come up with were Plasticville trailers. I detailed and weathered them a bit plus added lights. They worked well. Anyone one else use Plasticville? Don

Working on 24x40 ON30 layouit. Used two Plasticville bridges to simulate the twin bridges that are just east of Chama. Russ
I use Plasticville, but only when I feel a special piece works. I have one of their toll plazas and I ice cream stand. They work great with higher end items with a little creativity as Don states above.
I have some Plasticville that I will be using as place holders on my layout until I have the time to build something a bit more to scale. This includes a Union Station, a coal tower, and a couple of other things. I will also find a place for a couple of Plasticville items from when I was a kid. The new items I'll spray with Dullcote or something to get rid of the waxy plastic look. They'll do me fine until I have the time to build a kit (and until I make up my mind what I want/need in a given spot). In a similar vein, I just picked up a K-Line North Shore commuter station for ten bucks at a local train show - put it together, fiddle with some paint, Dullcote it - it'll be fine till I get around to making something better.
Russ, keep us posted on your progress. That's going to be some railroad. I bet Allan would love you to do a feature in the magazine. Your modeling my favorite railroad and the best rail adventure I've ever had. I took thousands of pictures. Don

The mobile homes are the easiest convert to scale. I am looking at modifying a few others into more 'scale' buildings. The bank and hospital have potential.
Due to the difficulty in obtaining O-scale buildings of any description over here, almost all of mine are currently Plasticville. The trailer park set is my favourite. It has so many possibilities for customisation and can be fitted easily into almost any space that needs a focus.

Funny you should mention a trailer park. I have the Plasticville three-trailer kit in a box for that very purpose, too. As far asi know they are the only house trailers (as opposed to Airstream trailers and "caravans" as the Brits call them. I plan to scratch build a couple of bigger trailers and, like you, add to and weather the plastic ville, add a n airstream or two, etc..
As to your more general question, I have only one plasticville building on my layout (out of eighteen so far) - at least I think it is Plasticville - a gas/station/car dealer I have positioned and weathered a bit as a sports car shop. I'm actually not certian what brand it is but it looks Plasticville

Lee, that appears to be either the Marx gas station, or the K-Line reproduction thereof.
Cesar, I bought one of those coaling towers at the New Hope, PA train show a couple of weeks ago! Now I know it's Plasticville. thanks. It was already weathered and detailed with an added figure on the platform by the coal shute. Also has coal on the shute. I am very happy with its presence on the carpet layout. But I wish I had that HO light!
Cool idea. Never heard of them.
Also the series of coal towers looks great.
I mix Plasticville, card stock, Department 56, MTH and Lionel buildings. My preference is "what looks good to me" rather than scale.
Some old photos showing Plasticville on my layout.

I have Ameri-Towne, Korber and a MTH Car Dealership. I only have a Plasticville Independence which is actually HO size and a K-Line Gas Station because of the Orange Trim I made it into a Gulf Station because I worked at one when I was 17.
I have the set of 3 trailers on my Layout.
I like most of the the MTH buildings but their trailer is way too big.
The Plasticvolle trailers look to be close to scale and are easily modified.
I also am using a farm set I believe to be plasticville. Tractor, wagon, windmill, ect.
I also have the coaling tower, it needs paint and weathering but otherwise will do for a secondary line tower. That set of 4 of them looks good.
Harry Doyle mentioned the switch tower. That reminded me that I also use one as a bridge tender's shack:

Lee, there was an old run down trailer park about ten miles from my last house. They had a mix of house trailers and travel trailer. One of the house trailers was almost an exact copy of the plasticville trailer. I wonder if they originally designed them after a real trailer. Don
I'm sure they were copied from 1950s era House Trailers.
I'm always amazed at how creative you Forumies can be. Keep the pictures coming. Mahalo Don
Pete, Beautiful layout and melding of structures into the scenery. It looks so not "plastic".
"Plasticville"
It's just me but I hate that name.
I do have my eye on some of their structures in my planning.
I think they were following Lionel with the Lionelville name. Don
Looking back on a lot of publications and some fine layouts, Plasticville has a LOT of possibilities. Just develop a keen eye to use it as is or modify some cheap basic structures. I'm going to bring to the forefront a post about Plasticville I made a little while ago.

This is one of the best Plastiville buildings. Just about perfect scale wise for full O and small enough that you can place a few on the layout and not over run it. Not always easy to find but I have a few on hand for my layout.
AMCDave, yes, that is a nice piece that can fit in well. There is a lot of common and cheap Plasticville readily available that lends well to kitbashing to make some fine new creations. I have enough walls and kits to come up with some great stuff for my layout.
