Hello everyone, I am getting ready
To build two 4x8' tables in a L shape for a beginning layout.  I have a pair of
Good Edsal 36" table legs that I was going to brace 2x4s on and was wondering what I should use for the top: plywood (half inch, 5/8 or .75) or Homasote or quiet brace.

Or is homasote or quiet brace recommended over a piece of plywood?

The tables will be in an unheated sunroom from October to February or March. but even in the winter it doesnt go below 50 because of all the sunlight it gets.

Thanks in advance for responses.

Tom,

I have used both 1/2" and 5/8" plywood, and prefer the 5/8". For my present layout, I used 2x4's for my frame, with the 2x4's under the plywood spaced 16" to 24" apart, and the 5/8" plywood is perfect to support me without any noticeable deflection.

Over the plywood I have used both Homasote and more recently, QuietBrace. Nothing wrong with Homasote, but now I prefer QuietBrace, which is 30% to 40% the cost of Homasote. For two sheets as in your case, however, it really would not make a lot of difference. I used 24 sheets (or was it 30?) on my current layout, and it did make a difference in cost.

Good luck!

Alex
