Are there any good O gauge Porto or Brill Trolleys out there, currently produced or made in the past? What I've seen looks cheap and plastic-yyy.

Hi Allan,
Western Hobbycraft's beautiful O Gauge trolleys were modeled after the St. Louis Car Co's 350-369 series for Johnstown Traction Co. They subsequently repainted the same body for different cities, yet kept the Johnstown destination signs in each. I own the Johnstown, Chicago, and Philadelphia versions. Attached are some photos.

I found another photo in my files which shows the Western Hobbycraft Johnstown trolley. Note the correct Johnstown Morrellville destination sign. My shot of the "Archer" Chicago car shows the sign that I made. It didn't make much sense for a Chicago car to have Johnstown destinations.

There was the Bowser three rail trolley. Lots of those around. The car you are looking at is a single truck, most cars you will find are going to be double truck.
Bowser offers a motor truck intended to power the Corgi Birney. Its available in 2 rail or 3 rail.

Perhaps you could kit bash an Atlas trolley body into your single trucker.
Bowser made both single truck and double truck trolleys. They are not the models the
Western Hobbycraft is, but, with work, I am guessing could be improved.
Another option for the body would be to get 2 of the old Testor cable car kits and make your own body. These can be used and the parts combined with liquid plastic cements.Vane Jones had an article in Traction and Models on a series of kit bashes he did.I built a Rochester subway car using pieces of these cable cars. They show up on EBay and usually youn can buy a oouple for under 30 bucks . If you screw up you haven't lost a fortune.
The MTH Bump and Go Trolley closely resembles Porto's Brill-32 trams. This is a four wheel, 8 window car of the same group as the Yakima trolleys. The MTH trolley has fixed steps like the cars in Portugal. This is the MTH 30-2545 trolley with a close-up here. You can find it here and here.

They in fact can be improved:
