The Portola Museum is a great place, definitely a WP fan's paradise.
Did you happen to make a stop at the Keddie Wye to watch for and take pictures of train action there? It's right off the 70/89 highway on your way down Feather River Canyon, and it's a very popular railfanning place; probably the second most popular in California behind the Tehachapi Loop.
A few summers back I was lucky enough to take an excursion on old CZ cars from Emeryville Portola and back - though the Feather River Canyon, over the wye, and spending the day in between in Portola. It was amazing.
(My forum pic is actually taken in a CZ dome in the canyon!)
No John, but I saw the Road sign for Keddie...thanks for the info!!!
Mr. Chaos, my wife and I were on the CZ run also. This is some video of the ride back to the bay area. Don
Too bad you didn't stop for it Ron. The primary sightseeing spot is literally right off the shoulder of Hwy 70 going to and coming from Portola from the valley. Make it an objective next time you happen to be up that way. See the picture that Don posted above? That's what you can see when you park off the shoulder.

Unbelievable! You drive thru the Feather River Canyon and don't stop at Keddie Wye?????
Not enough good fishing holes in the Bay Area while you were there Don? Sounds to me you used Keddie Wye as an excuse to go fishing over there.
I've always thought that the fishing was better that further up the River than down in the valley.
John, we always got a cabin and fished the lake basin area. Some of the best vacations we ever had on the mainland. Don
Don;
Right you are about the Basin/Buttes. We've gone to Elwell in the fall for years. I always wondered who had left the Trains magazines at the lodge...now I know.

I made that drive up the Feather River Canyon some years ago to Portola, and I didn't
stop at Keddie, either. What I most remember was an overlook that viewed a mining
operation along the river some distance below, but I am not sure it was operating.
Stupid question but why is there a chopped F-unit on a flat car? will it be rebuilt?

Perhaps a variation of current Lionel accessory?

The cab was part of a display at the Disneyland Resort in California.
To do any restoration you sort of need the rest of the locomotive.
Rusty
My question is when they cut the cab did they think to save the rest? Don
Seeing it was displayed as part of an attraction at Disneyland, I would seriously doubt it. I would suspect the Disney folks were only interested in the cab portion.
