I recently worked on a W.P. diesel for a friend, but instead of A-A units this is a A-B combination. From what I saw in books, Lionel never offered a B unit for the W.P. engines. Is this true? If so then it must be a custom painted B unit. Would appreciate your feedback as the day unwinds. Thanks,

Jeff,
It's true - Lionel never made a WP B-unit in the postwar years.
They did make one in the modern era postwar celebration series. It is lettered 2345C in black on the side of the shell.

Jeff, please post a photo.
Unless it says Lionel on the 'B', it could be a Williams 'B'.
Thanks for the info, which now verifies my findings which means this is a custom paint job. And here is why. The B unit has screens on top like the A unit, but on the underside of the B unit is the stamping #2343C, which means it is a Lionel number and was not painted by Lionel using old B unit stock, in this case 2343. I am attaching photos for you to see.
Thanks for your input. I still think these units have value for sale.
