Not all that long ago a fellow poster wrote about an odd gondola with Scout trucks that he had. I think it might have been Ace.
I was going through some trains that had not seen the light of day in a long time and found an interesting gondola.
It is a black 6012 short Lionel gondola. It has Scout trucks mounted, with the Scout couplers turned inward, and magnetic conversion couplers turned outward. The Scout uncoupling pins are still there. There are no signs that the trucks were ever changed. The eyelets are very nicely formed.
Yes, it is possible that someone changed the trucks. But if this was done, it was by a person with the proper tools and experience. The basic Lionel 15 piece tool set that came with the ST-350 arbor press did not include tooling that would properly form these eyelets. Hobby Horse does (or did) offer a pair of eyelet forming tools that would. But who would bother?
