I am starting a project to reconstruct a Korber Power Plant. I will be replacing the windows, adding a couple of boilers to the inside with lighting, adding some steel stacks, a water tower, a couple of transformers and a few tanks. The power plant will be converted from just coal to coal and oil fired. Here are a couple of pictures of the humble start of the project.

Alan just a thought or two.

I would see the top visible floor/level as the "turbine floor" (of the Turbine Building where the T/G set (Turbine Generator) is located.  Under that the main condenser, steam re-heaters, fed water heaters, feed water pumps and piping.  Under this the "switch-gear and battery rooms. As I think about it never saw a Turbine Building with window on other than the turbine floor.  But I think I would show this detail behind the lowers windows.

The "steam-generator" what power plant boilers are called are large tall rectangular  boxes which are placed side-by-side.  Not the horizontal tank like boilers we saw in our school building's boiler rooms. These steam-generators have eye level viewing ports to see the fires.  Oil piping at the base to feed the jets for start-up, with the steam-drum at the top. The steam-generators away from the turbine building in structures that were not totally inclosed. So if I modeled  be in a structure adjacent to turbine buildings under the conveyor but connected  with large piping (24/36-inch scale).

The main output transformer(s) would look like the transformer used by MTH with their Schnabel car (one per T/G set.

just thoughts

Here are some pictures of the work I have done this weekend on the powerplant. I used Grandt line windows in the front of the main building because the panes are larger. I also used a different type in the small part of the building with a styrene sheet to take up the gap. I figured out the tanks and vessels that would be going in place along with the stacks. Inside I will have two boilers and a turbine.P1020984P1020985P1020986P1020987P1020988P1020989P1020990

Looks Great as always cant wait to see what you do next

Just an FYI, Here's what the Nazareth Area Society of Model Engineers [N.A.S.M.E.] detailed their Korber Powerplant:

They used the HO  IHC UP 4 Track coaling station inside.

Do you have any more pictures of their work you can post?  I am trying to figure out what we see through the windows.  Looks more like a steam generator than a TG set.

I completed the tank under construction. It will hold no. 6 fuel oil to allow the powerplant to burn coal or oil. The two tanks behind it hold water. The stainless steel tanks water is demineralized  and is very corrosive to carbon steel. The tank to the left is for wastewater. The stacks were also just completed. I will next go to the interior so I can glue the building in place beforeP1030004P1030003P1030002P1030001P1020999 doing any piping to the tanks. Here are some pictures.P1030005

I just finished some exterior detail. I constructed the stair tower and added the wires to the transformers. I then went on to construct the building interior pieces. They consist of a turbine, two boilers and some platforms. I painted them in bright colors so they will be more visible through the windows. The interior items do not have a lot of detail since the view is pretty obscured.P1030006P1030007P1030008P1030009P1030010P1030011P1030012P1030013P1030014P1030015P1030016P1030017P1030018
