The policy as Alan mentioned was not always that way, which may be the reason for confusion and misgivings being expressed here. 

From the forum's very beginnings just over 13 years ago, the standing rule was that no posts that contained any type of formal advertising was permitted on the primary forum.  That was due to OGR's preference as well as the general membership.  This standing rule was also grandfathered in once the forum expanded into other forums and the sponsorship came into being. 

Obviously that policy has changed more recently within the past couple of years or so.  Personally I don't really mind seeing these sales posts from Pat or from Charlie from Nassau Hobbies so much, although I can certainly understand some misgivings expressed here; after all the concern of an inrush of "advertising" on this and the other forums resulting in a spam-like atmosphere is a valid point.  I certainly would be turned off if I saw it becoming prolific, although it certainly hasn't proven to be so far.

Pat posts here to give the forum members a chance to buy trains at reasonable prices. He is AUTHORIZED to post his ad here. You like trains, he likes trains. Either place an order with him or continue to scroll down the posts but fer cryin' out loud, give it a rest with all the negative comments. Some of you folks really need to get a life or get on meds.

Hi Don! Thanks for the heads-up on the K-Line set. Back in April I noticed Chicagoland Hobby was offering a Lionel Legacy Milwaukee F-7 A-A set at right around original MSRP so I broke down and grabbed it.  Then in July I went totally crazy and bought the Lionel Legacy Milwaukee S-3 4-8-4 No. 267 (couldn't get the 261), also from Chicagoland Hobby. Needless to say that engine wasn't even close to MSRP but considering the obscene prices people have been asking for the S-3's on eBay I felt I got a good deal. It's been sitting in the box until my O gauge club runs trains at the next show.
