So I have an a-b-a set of e-6's with proto 3. This set does not have a opening in the nose for a mars light(20-20344-1). However I picked up a new shell which does have the opening for a mars light. If you take a look at my pics, you will see that the lead and trailing A units have a lighting board in the nose of the loco. On that board is a male connector marked MRS/L which tells me that is for a mars light. So.......Can I take the headlight LED and plug it into the mars light connector and expect it to work? Will an LED give the effect of a waving mars light? Is it possible I will blow a board or an LED? Any help is appreciated. If I can do a test using the headlight LED and this works I will contact MTH to get another LED that I can use for the mars light.

That will be an LED compatible outputs, and LED's can be made to look pretty good as a MARS light.
There is a question if the MARS light is actually active in that sound/chain file, and also if it's wired to that board, but plugging in an LED will tell you if it's there or now.
Thank you John, I was wondering the same thing about if its in the program or not. I know I will have to go into the soft keys to see if it is able to be toggled or not. So if I am reading you correctly, I can test using the headlight LED and not worry about blowing the board or the LED. Correct?
All the lights are LED's, so there should be nothing behind the curtain to cook your LED.
If it doesn't work (because the function is not on the remote) just download an E6 chain and sound file with a MARS light and you should be in business.

I would like to be able to do that but have no idea how. Not much of a computer guy.
