Hi guys,

where could I find good information and pictures of Prewar layouts and construction methods for tunnels, etc.? Most of my trains are from 1912-1942 (with some newer and modern production) and I would like to make a layout more or less "Prewar-themed". Considering original Papier-Mâché tunnels seem to be difficult to obtain, I would prefer to make my own if possible.

Thanks,

Alex

The definitive source for pre-war layout construction techniques is Lionel's "Model Builder". This appeared in periodical form for a number of years, but there was also a compilation in pefect-bound book format, issued in 1940:

This is not hard to find, and it can't be beat. Anyone interested in building any kind of tinplate or hi-rail layout should own a copy.  Even contemporary modelers can learn a thing or two from this source.
