I have a recently acquired MTH PS Alco PA in Southern Pacific livery. The engine is beautiful and I also picked up the 4 car and 2 car add on set from @MrMuffin'sTrains. I was able to add the engine but have noticed that the number board lights flicker - a lot. I deleted the engine and then re added it, and it is still doing the same thing. Anyone else experience this issue? Any ideas?

Is flickering when engine is stopped, or only when moving? In other words, are there any conditions/setting where the flickering behavior changes?
Moving and standing still.
I am going to start taking cars off the layout and see if that does anything. The passenger cars are new as well.

Sounds like a loose connection inside.
I am not entire sure what happened but it seemed to tie to the headlight, mars light, marker light and number boards. When I went turn them on and off from the tablet, I noted they were seemingly not responding when I was attempting to turning them on and off but then they were working.
I shut off the power around the layout and when I started the layout and the engine the flickering was gone. I ran the engine and no more flickering.
After some football will go and see if it remains gone. I am hopeful.

Sometimes the charging circuit takes longer to fully charge the caps. I wonder if you were just seeing extra flicker from the roller pick-ups while the caps were low? Maybe something else had to break in?
He didn’t say it was a PS3 model. He simply said PS. Original Protosounds doesn’t have capacitors.
John, is that correct? If so, you could have an old or undercharged battery in it. You’ll want to replace it if it’s as old of the locomotive. It could damage the PS chip if you don’t.
What’s the item number for this model?
It is a PS3 engine, not PS2 or PS1. I think my problem is solved but will see later when I run the trains and finish working.

Even with PS/3, I've never seen that effect before the caps charge, so hard to know what it was.
If connected via contact and pad from shell could have been some intermittent contact. When lights go haywire, start with feature reset. Followed by factory reset if that does not work. G
