Problem with Lionel 2340 GG-1

If you run it on Lionel tubular track & 022 post-war switches you should not have a problem. I realize that doesn't answer your question.

Check the rollers. Sometimes they don't make contact properly, or a wire is broken/off.

Check to see if the roller contacts the frame when it bounces up. If that is the culprit, then put some electrical tape on the frame where contact is made. If that is not the problem, then the rollers are touching more than the center rail. My two guesses. Good luck.

SteveO:  I might add to check and see that both pick-ups are supplying power to the e-unit. If a pick-up wire from one of the collectors was not connected properly, you could be running only on one roller. Going over switches would show this when the collector roller would pass over a insulated/plastic section of the center rail and, hence,  the power to the e-unit would be broken, and the unit would cycle to the next position (neutral).  Hope this helps, Dennis M.

You can also check to be sure the rollers are centered between the wheels.  If you loosen the collector screws, there is a little slop that wll allow the collector to be repositioned.

Thanks to everyone who responded.  I appreciate your advice.  The consensus seems to be that it is a roller problem.  I'll give it a shot hopefully tonight.

You can check the rollers without removing the body.  You can OHM out the rollers...

Common post war problem and sometimes it can be as simple as just dirt interrupting the contact.

Yes, I had aa similar issue with a 205  Mopac Alco and cleaned the rollers and the problem disappeared.  Mark
